The Military Police of Brazil announced on Monday that they will begin their preparation towards the security of the 2014 World Cup.
The Pacaembu stadium, home to the Corinthians soccer team, will be the location of the group's first simulation.
The Military Police will bring together special units from all over Brazil, such as their SWAT teams, the Special Group of Tactical Actions (GATE), the Commandos and Special Operations, Firemen, the K-9 unit and the Arial Group of the Military Police. Foreign entities will also participate in the instructive activity.
The first simulation will take place on Aug. 24. The event will test state-of-the-art equipment specific to fighting crime, such as cameras, areal pictures and facial biometrics. The technology and training will also be used for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The announcement comes just days after a group of armed men raided a luxury hotel in Rio de Janeiro, frightening foreigners and taking 35 hostages. Responding to the recent incident, the International Olympic Committee announced that they are confident that authorities in Brazil will provide a safe and secure atmosphere for the 2016 Olympic Games, reminding that Brazil's government is responsible for security.
