As "green" has become a watchword worldwide, experts from the Americas will gather in Brazil's capital Rio de Janeiro on Thursday to explore ways on how to build a green and sustainable city.
The meeting is the result of joint efforts made by the U.S. State Department as well as the Brazilian Ministry of Cities and Ministry of External Relations under the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA), announced by U.S. President Barack Obama at the April 2009 Summit of the Americas.
The two-day meeting will mainly focus on discussing sustainable urban planning and green construction for the region's low-income areas, featuring two events.
The first one involves establishing an academic network that will link U.S. urban planners with their counterparts throughout the region.
The American Planning Association (APA) as well as the Brazilian Council for Sustainable Construction will co-organize the event.
