A UN mission is now in Colombia to facilitate humanitarian aid for the country's rain victims, the Colombian government said Tuesday.
"The United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) will enhance work to manage information and to strengthen coordination with both national and international humanitarian agencies. They are expected to stay in the country for three weeks," the Interior and Justice Ministry said in a statement.
The UNDAC delegates have met Luz Amanda Pulido, director of the Colombian National System for the Prevention and Attention to Disasters, and other officials.
Heavy rains starting from April this year have killed over 300 people and left 2.2 million people homeless in 28 of the 32 states in Colombia.
The government said it will also provide aid to rain-affected animals.
