A passenger bus carrying miners on Friday fell into a cliff, killing at least six and wounding eight others in the region of Santander, northeastern Colombia, National Police said.

"In Ahorcado Hill, the vehicle lost direction, that's the first hypothesis" for the cause of the accident, Colonel Mario Aurelio Pedroza, a local police chief said.

The accident happened around 5:15 a.m. (1015 GMT). The injured passengers have been taken by a police helicopter to a specialized hospital, in Bucaramanga City, capital of Santander.
