Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Thursday said his government is launching a new plan that will allow for great advances in the issues of housing, food and electricity for the people of this South AMerican country.

Chavez, in meeting of the ministers council which was broadcast live on national television, said the government has allocated 100 million U.S. dollars and signed an agreement with the Bank Association of Venezuela to build 23,425 houses for the most needy.

He said this is part of a plan for building 150,000 houses in 2011 and 200,000 houses more in 2012.

In regard to electricity, Chavez said construction of a thermoelectric plant which is being built in Los Valles del Tuy east of Caracas has advanced 40 percent and once completed it will generate an additional 1,080 megawatts of electricity for the capital district. The plant will cost almost 2 billion dollars.

Vice President Elias Jaua, meanwhile, said that Venezuela has 59 projects to generate 1,500 megawatts in new electricity sources, while Electricity Minister Ali Rodriguez said the country has the capacity to produce 20,000 megawatts with the establishment of generation towers in Guajira and in Falcon state.

Chavez also said that the networks of Food Market, Bicentenary Supply, and the Venezuelan Producer and Distributor of Food will be expanded to guarantee food supply to all Venezuelans.

The Food Market distributes 300,000 metric tons of food products a month which are sold at fair prices.
