Georgia's ruling United National Movement party is leading in the parliamentary elections with a big margin, the elections authority said on Thursday.
The party has collected some 65 percent of the first batch of counted votes while the largest opposition coalition, the "United Opposition: National Council - the New Right," won 12 percent, the Central Elections Commission said after 4.7 percent of ballets were counted.
A total of nine parties and election blocs took part in the elections but only three major opposition groups have managed to overcome a 5-percent threshold.
The "United Opposition: National Council - the New Right" has started a rally near the Sports Palace in Tbilisi at midnight on Wednesday to reject the exit polls released on Wednesday. Source:Xinhua
