Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet met Austrian Federal Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer Tuesday during his three-day-long state visit in Vienna, and they decided to enhance economic cooperation.

Both countries would like to enhance the cooperation in fields of mechanical engineering, infrastructure, energy techniques and environment techniques, Austria News Agency (APA) quoted Foreign Affairs Consulter of Gusenbauer, Bernhard Wrabetz, as saying.

Vietnam and Austria also signed the same day several economic agreements, including a framework credit agreement and a contract about the establishment of two other mechanical pulp mills with a project of 200 million euros.

Vietnam is one of the strongest developing markets in Asia and has a stable GDP increase between 7 percent to 9 percent in recent years.

Austrian companies in Vietnam are mainly engaged in the fields of medical technology and infrastructure construction. Austria's export to Vietnam increased 23 percent in the last year to 68 million euros and import from Vietnam increased 18 percent to 224 million euros.
