Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu signed a decree Wednesday for the establishment of first nine diplomatic missions abroad.
Based on the decree, Kosovo will first open its embassies in Albania, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Britain and the United States.
Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia on Feb. 17, while its constitution entered into force on Sunday.
Sejdiu said all these missions would be established in the level of embassies.
He made this decision in close consultations with Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci and based on his authorities emerging from the new Kosovo constitution.
However, Sejdiu did not specify when the first embassies will be open but said only it intends to open other embassies in the near future.
Some of the 43 countries that have recognized Kosovo's statehood have already turned their diplomatic offices into embassies in Pristina, whereas many others continue to act as liaison offices.
Kosovo's Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuqi said by the end of June Kosovo would announce the names of ambassadors in charge of these diplomatic missions.
"Kosovo has human potential to successfully carry out diplomatic and consular affairs in these embassies," said Kuqi.
He said currently Kosovo was not capable to establish 20 diplomatic missions, as it was planned earlier.
