At least thirteen people died and two others were missing as a result of rain-caused flooding in western Ukraine, the country's Emergency Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
The five of the dead were children swept away by floodwaters when several rivers burst their banks, the statement said.
Authorities evacuated about 7,000 people after floods swept through more than 20,000 homes in the area hit by floods, according to the statement.
"The situation is very severe. Ukraine has not seen anything like that in 100 years," First Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchinov was quoted by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency as saying.
President Viktor Yushchenko has rushed to the regions hit by the severest flooding on Sunday afternoon.
