Sweden's ratio of "green car" sold increases

Car Sweden has said that Sweden saw an increase in the proportion of environmentally friendly cars and diesel cars in 2009.
Due to financial crisis, the registered car sales decreased by 16 percent in 2009 compared with that in 2008. But the number of environmentally friendly cars accounted for 38 percent of the total 213380 personal cars and the number of diesel cars accounted for 41 percent of the total compared with 2008.
"Both environmentally cars and diesel trucks reached a record level during 2009. This is very positive for environment and reduction of emission in Sweden," said Bertil Molden, CEO of Car Sweden in a press release.
Molden predicted that in 2010 the car sales will increase by 10 percent to 235000 personal cars, but still it will not reach the level in 2008 which was 253982 cars.
Molden contributed the decrease of income tax and incentive policies from the government to the increase of the "green car" proportion.
The most popular "green" brands were Volvo V70 Flexifuel, Volvo V50 Flexifuel, Volvo V50D, VW Passat Ecofuel and Toyta Yaris.
Sweden implements a car registration system so that it is easy to get statistics about environmentally friendly automobiles, the registration is monitored by Car Sweden.
