The police in Tyrol, a western state of Austria has dismantled a drug trafficking gang with the arrest of 15 suspects, who had traded the drug since 2007 with a sum of 600,000 euros street value, said Tyrolean Police Commander Helmut Tomac at a press conference on Tuesday.
Over the last few years, 35 kilos of cannabis and several kilos of cocaine were smuggled by the drug trafficking gang from the Netherlands and Spain to Tyrol, where they delivered the goods to a large numbers of customers.
According to Tomac, the interesting thing is that most of the suspects were blameless and one of them even had a regular job. Among the suspects, some were office workers and independent contractors.
The two main suspects at the age of 18 and 25 are both from Innsbruck, the capital city of Tyrol. Sometimes they led the smuggling trips by themselves, and they also hired couriers.
Among the suspects, 13 are locals, two are from Germany and one from the Dominican Republic. Half of them are female.
The investigation started at the beginning of this year by the police of city Innsbruck.
