Egyptian President and Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) Hosni Mubarak Tuesday reiterated that the NDP is committed to the ordinary citizens' concerns and national security.
At the closing session of the ninth NDP General Conference broadcast live on Egyptian Nile TV, Mubarak hailed that the gathering as "well-organized", which reasserted the NDP commitment to the strategic vision of internal and foreign policies.
Stressing the NDP vision to strengthen the foundations of "a modern and civil state", Mubarak noted that the NDP is resolved to continue its efforts to spread the principles of democracy, pluralism and press ahead with comprehensive reforms so as to establish a modern society that does not mix religion with politics.
Mubarak, reelected the chairman of the party during the four-day meeting, called on the party and the government to do their utmost to lure more investments, especially in Upper Egypt, to generate more jobs.
He underlined the need to give more support to the agricultural sector and work out solutions for farmers' problems, asking the government to earmark 20 billion Egyptian pounds (3.62 billion U.S. dollars) to finance sanitary drainage projects within the next three years.
Mubarak also stressed efforts to improve the life of the low-income brackets, expand the social security network within three years to double the covered families from 1 million by the end of 2007, as well as efforts to draw up a new vision of the country's entire subsidy policy so as to reduce government burdens.
He also discussed efforts to develop the healthcare and education system, as well as the challenge posed by overpopulation which have a negative effect as Egypt is undergoing a transformation era.
On national security issue, Mubarak said he rejected any pressures, conditions or interference in Egypt's affairs, noting that Egypt protects its sovereignty and the independence of its will.
He reiterated Egypt's resolve to establish nuclear stations to ensure its energy requirements, highlighting the strategic importance of water security.
The four-day NDP General Conference held every five years were attended by some 6,500 representatives of the 2.25-million-member party in the country.
