Jordan plans to hand back to Iraq 2,466 artifacts which were looted from Iraqi museums and archeological sites in the past years, an official said on Wednesday.

Jordanian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Maha Khatib said that these artifacts, seized by Jordan Customs and security apparatus, would be handed back next Sunday to Iraq.

The batch of artifacts are expected to be received by Iraqi State Minister of Tourism and Archaeology Mohammad Abbas al-Oreibi, who is currently in Amman to attend the 11th session of Arab Ministerial Tourism Council.

Khatib stressed Jordan's firm stance against whatever might harm the Iraqi historical and cultural identity by combating all smuggling attempts across the borders.
