Turkey and Iran signed cooperation agreements on the fight against illicit drug trafficking, organized crimes and terrorism on Thursday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.

Turkish and Iranian delegations, chaired by Turkish President Abdullah Gul and visiting Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, held a meeting in Turkey's largest city of Istanbul.

Following the meeting, Turkish Interior Minister Besir Atalay said that a committee would be established to follow illicit drug trafficking, illegal migration, human smuggling and various other crimes both in Turkish and Iranian parts of the border.

Atalay said that the agreement, signed to establish the committee, was a wide-range one in the security area, adding that the agreement included the exchange of information, intelligence as well as assistance.

Turkish State Minister Mehmet Simsek and Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki also singed cooperation agreements on environment and transportation between the two countries.
