Taliban militants on Friday captured the Nawah district in central Afghanistan's Ghazni province after days surrounding, said an official.
Mohibullah Kheplwak, the district chief told Xinhua that Taliban militants started surrounding district government center three days ago and Ghazni provincial government failed to reinforce district police fighting with militants.
"All police and government staffs have evacuated from the Nawahdistrict this morning due to lackness of essential supplies," the official said, "Taliban militants took the district center without using a bullet."
Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahed, the purported Taliban spokesmen confirmed the outfits have seized Nawah district center and drove out all Afghan police and foreign troops stationed there.
Governor Osman Osmani has warned on July 15 that Taliban fighters had massed in Ghazni province trying to use the province as the front line to mount pressure on Afghan capital Kabul,
Taliban insurgents who staged a violent comeback three years ago have intensified their activities across Afghanistan over the past weeks to mount pressure on the government despite around 70,000 foreign troops stationed in the war-torn country vowing to keep peace and help reconstruction here.
Conflicts and spiraling insurgency have claimed the lives of more than 2,500 people including militants, troops and civilians so far this year in Afghanistan.
