Syrian President Bashar al-Assad would pay a working visit to Russia on Wednesday at an invitation from his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev, the official SANA news agency reported on Tuesday.
It would be Assad's first visit to Moscow after Medvedev became the president of Russia.
During his stay in Moscow, Assad will discuss with Medvedev bilateral relations, the Middle East peace process and the latest developments on the regional arena, according to the independent Syria-news website.
Assad made two visits to Moscow in 2005 and 2006, during which he held talks with then Russian President Vladimir Putin on boosting friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
SANA hailed bilateral relations between Syria and Russia which have developed considerably over the past few years in different fields. Several agreements have been signed during the period.
Both countries stressed the necessity to develop bilateral cooperation to serve their common interests and enhance the opportunity of establishing peace and security in the Middle East, SANA said.
