Islamic Hamas movement that rules the Gaza Strip on Sunday called on Arab donors to stop transferring funds to the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) in Ramallah.
"Hamas calls on Arab donors not to transfer any money to the Palestinian (National) Authority until it shows commitment that all the Palestinian people would get benefits out of this money," said Sami Abu Zuhri, Hamas spokesman in Gaza.
Abu Zuhri said in a written statement sent to reporters by e-mail that the PNA President Mahmoud Abbas and the government of Salam Fayyad fired more than 20,000 civil servants in the Gaza Strip and don't pay them their monthly wages.
Earlier reports said that Saudi Arabia has deposited 100 million U.S. dollars into the budget of the PNA that is ruled by President Abbas and his Prime Minister Fayyad.
"Abbas and Fayyad are using this money to practice policies of blackmail and pressure on large sectors among the Palestinian people to achieve personal political and factional interests," said Abu Zuhri.
"Therefore, we call to stop transferring the Arab funds to the authority of Ramallah until it shows complete commitment to pay the money to everyone deserving without any exceptions," he added.
Hamas, which has been ruling the Gaza Strip since mid June last year, took control of the enclave by force and ousted President Abbas' security forces and formed new security forces under its command.
Abbas has earlier denied that he discriminates between Gaza and West Bank employees. But Abu Zuhri said in the statement that "this is untrue," calling on the Arab League to sent an investigation committee to check the situation.
