The head of foreign relations of the Lebanese Shiite armed group Hezbollah Nawaf Moussawi said thathis group gets more ready now than Israel to engage in a battle, local al-Akhbar daily reported Tuesday.

"The Israelis are not ready for field battles, the resistance in Lebanon is more ready to engage in military battle," Moussawi said.

His remarks were in reply to Israeli defense minister Ehud Barak who threatened Monday that Israel would take tougher actions against Lebanese infrastructure in case of a war with Hezbollah.

Moussawi ruled out the possibility of a regional war saying that "all nations are preoccupied with their internal affairs."

On the issue of enforcing the Lebanese army with more weapons, Moussawi said, "Hezbollah backs all efforts to provide the Lebanese army with more weapons," but added that the "Lebanese army is unable to complete the task on its own, this is why the resistance is there."

Hezbollah and Israel were engaged in a devastating 33-day war in 2006, during which Israel destroyed Lebanese infrastructure and bridges.
