Iran's naval forces tested a medium-range missile in naval maneuver, the state TV IRIB website reported on Sunday.
"The surface-to-surface Nasr 2 (Victory 2) missile was successfully test-fired from a warship and hit a target at a distance of 30 kilometer (18 miles) and destroyed it" in the sea of Oman on Saturday night, the report said.
Reportedly, it was the first test of the new, medium-range missile.
The missile was launched at the last stage of the naval maneuver "Unity 87" in the Sea of Oman which started six days ago in the Gulf and Oman Sea.
Tehran has recently concentrated on the enhancement of its naval capabilities by giving a number of roles to its Naval Force, Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and the Basij (the voluntary) forces, by establishing naval bases in both the Gulf and Oman Sea and by staging naval maneuvers.
Earlier last month, Iran's Navy Force commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said that "All the movements of the enemy in Oman Sea, Persian Gulf and Hormuz Strait are under control and the enemy will never dare to enter Iran's waters."
The United States and Israel have consistently refused to rule out the possibility of military strikes against Iran over its refusal to halt its nuclear program.
The United States and its allies have accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program.
Iran has denied the U.S. charges and insisted that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
