Lebanese Shiite armed group Hezbollah on Thursday denied a deal between it and the western- backed bloc on the issue of the so-called "false witnesses" in former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri's murder, said a statement issued by Hezbollah's media office.

The report about Ammar Moussawi, Hezbollah's international relations officer was "inaccurate," the statement said. He did not talk in a local radio's interview about a proposed deal with the March 14 Alliance, the parliamentary majority and the rival of Hezbollah-led March 8 Alliance, the officer was quoted as saying.

The local New TV reported earlier on Thursday that Moussawi said the March 14 Alliance suggested transferring the "false witnesses" file to the Justice Council in return for overlooking the balance sheet of past government expenditure.

Lebanese cabinet has met only once since November and has not tackled institutional work in depth as ministers from the two rival blocs have been deadlocked over how to resolve the issue of the witnesses who gave testimonies to the UN-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), which is probing into the 2005 assassination of Rafic Hariri.

Hezbollah said these witnesses were unreliable and were arranged by the March 14 Alliance, as their testimonies ran against some Hezbollah members.

Tension in Lebanon has been mounting as the STL is going to issue indictment on some Hezbollah members, which is concerned to raise new civil conflicts between the rivalry two blocs.
