At least one anti-government protester was killed and 13 others wounded in Yemen's southern province of Taiz on Tuesday in escalating clashes between police and protesters who rejected opposition's acceptance to Gulf deal that granted immunity for President Ali Abdullah Saleh after he leaves office, witnesses said.

"One protester named Mazin Abdullah was shot dead by snipers in Taiz on Tuesday's clashes when tens of thousands of demonstrators protested against the opposition's full accord to the Gulf deal and demanded immediate end and prosecution of President Saleh," Foad Hussaien told Xinhua.

Around 13 others were wounded in the escalating clashes, three days after the opposition agreed to the Gulf Cooperation Council ( GCC) foreign ministers' initiative that stipulated Saleh to leave office in 30 days after signing the deal in return of immunity for him, his family and his aides, he added.
