An Egyptian boat with 83 illegal immigrants on board has been reportedly missing off the Greek coast on the Mediterranean sea, Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

The boat left the northern Egyptian coast city of Damietta three days ago and disappeared at the sea, said the statement, citing reports from the Egyptian embassy in Greece.

The Egyptian authorities are taking necessary measures and the foreign ministry is coordinating with the Greek authorities on saving the Egyptian vessel.

In the statement, the foreign ministry warned Egyptians of the dangers of illegal immigration, calling on citizens to avoid falling prey to human traffickers.
