Sudanese security forces have besieged a group of militants who had abducted 19 hostages including 11 foreign tourists on the border strip between Sudan, Egypt and Libya, a government spokesman announced on Tuesday.

Ali Yousef, the spokesman of the Sudanese Foreign Ministry, told reporters that the abductors were spotted by the Sudanese security forces after entering the Sudanese land from Egypt.

"Now they (the abductors) are at the Jebel Aweinat area 25 kilometers south of the Sudanese border," the spokesman said.

Confirming that all the abductors were Egyptians, the spokesman disclosed that contacts and consultations were currently been held between the Sudanese and Egyptian authorities and the abductors in order to guarantee a peaceful solution of the abduction.
