The Comoros Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday night that the chief of general staff of the National Development Army (AND), general Salimou Mohamed Amiri, was sacked and placed under house arrest.
The ministry also said an identification process for soldiers who invaded the courtroom to rescue him on Tuesday afternoon was being carried out.
The soldiers stormed the courtroom when a hearing was held against the chief of general staff, who was linked to the assassination of Colonel Combo Ayouba.
Ayouba was killed in June at his home in Moroni, the capital of the Indian Ocean island country.
The army chief and the soldiers who had helped him escape from the courtroom in Moroni went to the Kandani camp, which is the headquarters of the army.
Local radio broadcast a call by the army on the night, asking Amiri to surrender and obey the judicial decision.
Meanwhile, President Sambi sacked Amiri and replaced him with commander Abdallah Gamil.
