Mexico City's environment director elected governor of World Water Council

Martha Delgado, the environment director of Mexico City, has been elected as one of the 36 governors of the World Water Council (WWC), an international water policy think-tank, the city government said Sunday in a statement.

The honor was given to Delgado thanks to the efforts made by the city in the management and efficient use of water on an environmentally sustainable basis, according to the statement.

WWC members elected their new Board of Governors Friday at a meeting in Marseille, France, where the organization is based. The board will oversee and guide the council's work for the coming three years.

The WWC was created in 1996 with its mission "to promote awareness, build political commitment and trigger action on critical water issues at all levels on an environmentally sustainable basis for the benefit of all life on earth."
