ASEAN defense ministers meeting kicks off in Indonesia

The 5th ASEAN Defense Minister Meeting (ADMM) held in Jakarta on Thursday will discuss various issues in the region such as terrorism, piracy and armed conflicts, the largest online news provider detikcom reported here.
"Currently, people are facing new security issues in form of terrorism act, piracy, illegal immigrant and other maritime security issues," said Indonesian Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro in his opening remarks of ADMM.
According to Yusgiantoro, other issue that will be discussed is armed conflicts.
"Conflicts in several regions are still a challenge in realizing safe and stable world," he said.
The meeting themed 'Strengthening Defence Cooperation of ASEAN and the Global Community to Face New Challenge' was inspired by global and regional problems that results in complex challenges as well as promising opportunities for ASEAN member states.
"The ADDM's goal is to increase peace and stability in the region that becomes ASEAN's internal interest," said Yusgiantoro.
