Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), will launch a new service from Abu Dhabi to Italy's Milan from Sept. 2, local newspaper Gulf News reported on Wednesday. Etihad will provide three flights a week to Milan, which will be the airline's first destination in Italy and its ninth European destination, according to the report. The new service will be operated by a three-class A330-200 aircraft which is configured to carry 12 passengers in first class, 26 in business class and 164 in economy. The airline's inaugural flight to Milan takes place a week before the Formula 1 Italian grand prix in Monza on Sep. 9, which will feature the Etihad-sponsored Spyker racing team. The new service linking Abu Dhabi and Milan "underlines further our pledge to provide customers with services to the world's major commercial and leisure destinations," the airline's executive vice- president Geert Boven said. Established in July 2003, Etihad launched its first flight on Nov. 6, 2003. It currently owns a fleet of 26 aircraft which operate services to 43 global destinations.
