Malaysia's CIMB Group has expressed its interest in acquiring the 19.3 percent stake held by Bangkok Bank in Thailand's ACL bank, local media reported on Thursday.

The CIMB has registered its interest with the relevant parties on the possibility of acquiring that portion of shares held by Bangkok Bank, but terms and conditions need to be agreed, the Malaysian bank group said in a filing to the Malaysian Stock Exchange.

The Thai Finance Ministry also held an equity interest of 30.6 percent in ACL, the CIMB said, but did not say whether it was also interested in that part of stake.

As of Sept. 12, the total market capital of ACL, which has 12 branches in Thailand, reportedly stood at 9.5 billion baht (279.4 million U.S. dollars).

ACL's total assets were reported at 41.1 billion baht on Dec. 31 2006, with gross loans totaling 29.8 billion baht. (Currently one U.S. dollar trading about 34 baht).
