Chinese vice premier Hui Liangyu on Thursday urged local governments and industries, especially the agricultural industry, to further promote regional economic and technological cooperation between east and west China.
The vice premier made the statement in his congratulatory letter to the 2007 Economic and Trade Fair for Cooperation Between East and West China which opened on Thursday in Zhumadian, central Henan Province.
During the three-day event, an expo of the latest achievements in the agricultural products processing industry will be held, described by the vice premier as "an important carrier" of the central government's idea to promote modern agriculture.
Co-sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Henan provincial government, the fair, aiming to promote exchanges and cooperation between the relatively affluent east and underdeveloped west, has attracted almost 7,000 representatives from 17 provinces and regions, according to the organizers.
A forum on the agricultural product processing industry will be held during the fair, said the organizers.
