September 8 saw the foundation-laying ceremony of Intel's chip plant in Dalian, in northeast China. Intel, which possesses the world's largest 300mm (12 inches) wafer manufacture network, choose to settle its 8th in the world and its first 300mm wafer plant in Asia, in this Chinese city. The project came with a total investment of 2.5 billion US dollars.
The Dalian plant covers a total area of 163,000 square meters, including 15,000 square meters of clean rooms, and is expected to be operational by 2010.
