According to Xinhua News Agency, the Pacific Ocean Asia Travel Association, whose headquarters are located in Singapore, reported on 19th that by 2010, the annual tourism income in the Asia-Pacific region will reach 4.6 trillion US dollars.
The report estimated that the tourist growth rate in the Asia-Pacific region, from 2006 to 2010, will be 7.51%, higher than anticipated. By 2010, the total number of tourists in the Asia-Pacific region will surpass 347 million. The Associated Press quoted the Association's report, stating that the Asia-Pacific region has a vibrant tourism industry for the reason that two-thirds of international tourists come from within the region. The Asia-Pacific region's rapid growth in tourism will help the region withstand stock market instability and the economic slowdown in the United States.
The report from the Pacific Asia Travel Association is based on research from 40 Asian-Pacific destinations, including the USA, Chile, China, Japan and Thailand. According to the report, China will become the most popular destination in the APAC region by 2010, with a market share of 35.3%, indicating that 16 million visitors are expected to visit China. The report also said that 5.6 million visitors will be visiting the US. Canada, Thailand, and Singapore will be among the top 10 destinations.
