The World Federation of Direct Selling Association said Wednesday that direct selling is expected to thrive in the current financial turmoil that has whacked the United States market and has been slowing global economy.
Truman Hunt, the outgoing chairman of the association, expressed positive attitude over the deteriorating global financial markets, saying that it is good time for direct selling, as performance of the industry improves when the economy is under challenged.
Because in the difficult time, low-cost direct selling is a good alternative for entrepreneur, he said, and sales people those who are not institutional employed, mostly women, will be seeking for extra source of revenues.
He made the remarks at a press conference before the opening of the association's 13th World Congress in Singapore which attracted some 500 direct selling industry leaders from more than 50 countries and regions.
Neil Offen, secretary general of the industry association, alsoex pressed optimism on direct selling in Asia's fastest growing markets.
He said, direct selling global sales in 2007 stood at 114 billion U.S. dollars, in which, 36.6 billion U.S. dollars earned in Asia. And there are about 62 million sales people serving in the industry globally, while half of them are in Asia. Source: Xinhua
