Wall Street rose Thursday on a better-than-expected sales performance by discount retailers.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Costco Wholesale Corp. reported sales increase in March and they expected sales to keep rising.
The U.S. Labor Department said Thursday that initial claims for unemployment benefits fell by 53,000 to 357,000 last week, better than economists had expected.
In addition, Microsoft reportedly is talking with News Corp. on the possibility of a joint bid for Yahoo.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 54.72, or 0.44 percent, to 12,581.98. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 6.06, or 0.45 percent, to 1,360.55, and the Nasdaq composite index rose 29.58, or 1.27 percent, to 2,351.70. Source:Xinhua
