More than 3700 unemployed people flocked to a job fair in New York Thursday.

The fair, sponsored by jobs Web site Monster.com, was one of a string of huge career expos held in New York in the past couple of months.

There were 92 companies represented at Thursday's event, Eric Winegardner, a spokesman for the Monster.com said, adding there were 1,000 openings for job-hunters.

Monster.com, the leading global online career and recruitment resource and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc., Thursday announced the launch of the year-long Keep America Working Tour, a nationwide, multi-city job fair designed to link employers that have open job positions with people who need them.

The tour will visit more than 140 stops across America throughout 2009.

Laura Ryan, vice president of group manager at Monster.com, told Xinhua that altogether 3720 seekers came to the event, adding "there were a variety of industries represented today including healthcare, finance, retail, consumer products and state and local government."

The next stop on the Keeping America Working tour is in D.C. on March 9.

According to a press release obtained by Xinhua, at the core of the Keep America Working Tour is Monster's mission to help rebuild the American workforce by providing job seekers with the information and experience needed to directly and successfully interact with the employers who are hiring in their local markets.
