Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex), the only firm allowed to explore hydrocarbons fields in Mexico, on June 23 invited bids for contracts on upgrading natural gas production at the Burgos basin in northern Mexico.
The contracts seek to improve automatic production systems, build transport lines and production platforms, expand gas collection centers and set up new gas centers. Only domestic companies are allowed to participate in the biding for gas collection centers and new gas centers.
The 50,000-square-kilometer basin, which spans the three Mexican states of Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon and Coahuila, produced 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas a day in May, up around 10 percent from a year earlier.
The Burgos basin contributes around 22 percent of the nation's natural gas output.
