Moscow to allocate 200 million dollars for wind-power plant

Russia plans to spend 200 million U.S. dollars on construction of the largest wind-power plant in the Krasnodar region, RIA Novosti reported Friday.

The plant, capable of producing 50 MW of energy per year initially, will be located near Yeisk on the coast of the Sea of Azov. The plant's capacity will be expected to rise to 100 MW a year.

Research conducted in the Yeisk area has revealed the three best sites for the plant's wind power generators, said engineering specialist Adolf Chernyavsky.

The move follows President Dmitry Medvedev's demand to diversify the economy, which is dependent on gas and oil exports.

Both the federal budget and private funds will be invested in the project.

The Southern and North Caucasus Federal Districts' energy output may reportedly account for 200 billion kilowatt-hours a year.

Moscow also plans to construct its first solar plant in the district, requiring some 99 million dollars.
