GM finally scraps Hummer brand

US carmaker GM Motors confirmed on August 21 that its SUV Hummer brand will be scrapped at the end of August.

Although investors from China and elsewhere showed interest in purchasing the off-road icon, GM finally decided to end Hummer's 18-year-history of civilian operations.

The last Hummer H3 rolled off line at Shreveport, Louisiana, on May 24

Local media quoted a dealer in China saying the price of Hummers has risen due to scarcity and will likely increase another 80,000 to 100,000 yuan after the GM announcement of the brand's demise.

Chinese automaker Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co planned to acquire Hummer last year, but it failed to win approval from China's regulators to buy the gas-guzzling brand.
