"Whereas we dominate all the major marathons from New York to London, we have never won the team title at major championships but we are hoping that the youthful side we have picked this time should be able to win," said Kiplagat. Kiplagat said the team will include four reserves among them Omwanza and Salim Kipsang.
Kiplagat said announced a list of over 200 athletes who have been invited for the national trials on the 28th of this month, adding that every athlete to the world championships will have to qualify during the trials.
The selectors will select them on the basis of who crosses the finish line first and the decision. "The first and second athletes across the line will automatically be picked while the third will be picked by the selectors," said Kiplagat. He said that the invited athletes will only be allowed to run in two Grand Prix meets in London and Rome. AK names final squad to Osaka, Japan. The national trails will bring together top Kenyan athletes among them Commonwealth champion Janeth Jepkosgey with the fastest time in 800 meters this year, Olympic 3000m steeplechase champion Ezekiel Kemboi, world junior cross country champion Pauline Korikwang and Vivian Cheruiyot among others.
