The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has expressed hope that it can play an important role in the ninth All-Africa Games which will open on Wednesday in Algiers, capital of the North African country Algeria. Vice WADA President Jean-Francois Lamour told a press conference ahead of the Games on Tuesday that the organization hope to support the continental games by enabling international experts to carry out independent anti-doping tests on the scene. The WADA will also carry out an anti-doping publicizing campaign for contenders and coaches of the Games, reminding them that performance-enhancing drug is detrimental not only to the health of sports people but also to the development of sports cause, the vice president said.
Lamour also hailed the notable progresses made by African countries in anti-doping field, but he warned that it will be a lasting war of the whole world. Dr. Ben Soltane, director of anti-doping committee of the ninth All-Africa Games, highlighted that it was the first time in the history of the All-Africa Games that the host country invited international independent experts to participate into the anti-doping activities. All medal winners will have to go through drug tests.
