Egyptian judoka Ramada Mohamed Samah grabbed the first gold medal of the ninth All-Africa Games in women's over 78-kg class on Thursday afternoon. During the first-day competition of the Games, Samah beat Adjat Olakitan Ayuba from Nigeria by ippon in the final. The Games, with a dazzling opening ceremony in the Algerian capital on Thursday night, will last two weeks until July 23, during which nearly 400 gold medals are up for grab from 27 disciplines. The quadrennial regional multi-sport games, held one year before the Olympic Games, has not only come of age, but also become an Olympic gathering for the entire continent. It is the second time for Algeria to host the All-Africa Games, dubbed as the Africa's Olympics. The first time was in 1978.
