Bechir Cherif, vice president of World Karate Federation (WKF), said on Monday that he was confident karate will be included in the Olympic Games in the future.

"It is impossible for karate to stay out of the Olympic Games forever," Cherif told Xinhua on the sideline of the ninth All-Africa Games which is going on in Algiers, capital of the North African country Algeria.

"We have got one of the best programs to get karate into the Olympics, but the process depends on various factors," said Cherif. He refused to give an exact forecast. Cherif also said when karate is out of the Olympics, the World Karate Championships is also wonderful to have contestants from 110 countries come together.

The president added that karate is quite popular in Africa as it is a "beautiful" discipline.

There are about 20 million karate practitioners in Africa. "In Tunisia alone, we have 175 clubs. People found themselves in karate," said Cherif, who is the president of Tunisian Karate Federation.
