Twenty-two of the 42 delegations taking part in the 15th Pan American Games have won medals after the first week of competitions by Friday. The first medals were awarded on Saturday, July 14, in mountain bike with Canadian Catharine Pendrel winning the gold medal, American Mary McConneloug taking the silver medal, and Mexican Laura Morfin bringing home the bronze. More than 420 medals were given out since then. So far, the United States leads with 44 gold medals, 46 silver medals and 20 bronze medals, totaling 110 medals. Cuba is in second place with 23 gold medals. Brazil and Canada fight for the third place. Both countries have stepped onto the podium 56 times. However, Brazil surpasses their rivals, having conquered 18 golds whereas Canada has won only 13.
Colombia is in fifth place with 10 gold medals, followed by Venezuela (seven), Mexico (six) and Argentina (five).
