Kenyan Asbel Kiprop beat Algerian top runners in the last 50 meters to win the men's 1,500m at the All-Africa Games on Sunday.

Kiprop finished in a time of three minutes and 38.97 seconds.

Algerian Antar Zerguelaine got the silver in 3:39.04 and his compatriot Tarek Boukensa took the bronze in 3:39.18.

For Algeria, it is the best result its runners got in the history of the continental sports gathering as the event is always a tense competition between Kenyans and Ethiopians.

In the 2003 Games, Kenya swept the medals.
