Cameroon, which take on Guinea on Monday at the men's football finals of the ninth All Africa Games, has declared its determination to win the gold medal for the third consecutive time.
"Our goal is clear. We are here in Algeria to defend our title and would go back to Cameroon with the gold medal," Ndtoungou Mpile, Cameroon's under-23 head coach, told local press Sunday.
"I think we've accomplished the most difficult part. Now, we are going to fight for the title," said the coach.
The defending champions, which won the last two editions of the games, sit favorites to beat Guinea, the tournament's dark horse which ran an exceptional feat by reaching the finals.
"We know the Guinean team, against which we played recently for the 2008 Beijing Olympics qualifications. They play a very attractive game. Nevertheless, when it comes to the finals, the motivation is different," Ndtoungou said.
"I am confident with regard to this game. Our team has been improving. Cameroon cannot afford to loose the title," said the coach while predicting a difficult match at the same time.
According to Cameroon's playmaker Bekamenga Christian, who scored the second goal in the semifinal match against Zambia, Cameroon has what it takes to win the tournament.
"We are going to do everything possible to take the gold medal back to Cameroon. I believe that we can make it," said another Cameroon player Resib Panchoung, who plays in the Indonesian first division league.
