Brazilian city Rio de Janeiro will maintain 75 percent of the security measures set up by the central government for the Pan American Games, Brazilian President Luis Inacio da Silva said on Monday during his weekly Coffee With The President radio show.
The intelligence officers, aircraft, cars and officers will remain, he said. The Brazilian government has spend 560 million reales (295 million U.S. dollars) on public security for the games which ended on Sunday.
"The most important thing which will outlast the Games is the work experience gained from the collaboration of federal and city police, alongside the community. Around 10,500 young people participated," he said.
"I think if we see what happened, we can say that Rio already won a gold medal for the organization and the tranquility that reigned during the Games, and will now win a second medal for maintaining the facilities that were created for them," he added.
