Brazil's Senate will investigate the deportation of two Cuban boxers who had quit their team during Pan American Games, the head of the foreign relations committee said on Tuesday.

Guillermo Rigondeaux and Erislandy Lara arrived back in Cuba on Sunday after Brazilian police briefly detained them near Rio de Janeiro for not carrying documents.

The two internationally acclaimed boxers had left the Cuban delgation, considered going to Europe but then changed their mind and wanted to go home, police said.

The Senate foreign relations committee is to formalize a request on Thursday for Foreign Minister Celso Amorim and Justice Minister Tarso Genro to testify on the episode.
