Zambia will work in collaboration with South Africa in preparation for the 2011 All-Africa Games to be held in Lusaka and the 2010 World Cup set for South Africa, Zambian Deputy Sports Minister said.
Times of Zambia Tuesday quoted Angela Cifire as saying here Monday that the Zambian government has started planning on the logistics for the All-Africa Games and a meeting was held last week to map out strategies for the games.
She said the South African government is ready to work with the Zambian government on how best the two countries could successfully host the two tournaments.
"We are getting into formation. What is good is that the South African Sports Ministry is ready to work with us on how best we can share our ideas," she said.
She said the meeting was aimed at brainstorming and identifying infrastructure that need to be refurbished.
Cifire also said the current happening in the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) are worrying and deterring the development of football in the country.
Irked by FAZ's decisions over the hiring of a Frenchmen coach and the dropping of two doctors of the national soccer team, she said it is about time that FAZ administrators come up and show leadership qualities to avoid squabble in the national football governing body.
A FAZ committee member has reiterated that some executiver members have not been consulted on the recent dropping of the two doctors.
Deputy spokesperson of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Henry Sichembe told a press briefing here on August 9 that Frenchman Noel Tosi had been offered a three-year contract to take over as Zambia national soccer team coach.
But Voluntary Soccer Fans Association (ZAVOSOFA) wasted no time to oppose the decision. ZAVOSOFA strongman Peter Makembo demanded FAZ explain the procedure used to pick Tosi who was fired by Congo Brazzaville after a dismal performance and also disclose other candidates who have been shortlisted for the coaching job.
Zambian Sports Minister Gabriel Namulambe has ordered FAZ to sort out the mess created over the appointment of Tosi as Zambia national soccer team coach.
Namulambe described the confusion as disturbing.
Caretaker coach Patrick Phiri took over in June last year from Kalusha Bwalya, who quit under pressure after a dismal performance at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
