River Plate's misery in the Argentine soccer championship continued when it lost 1-0 to minnow San Martin in the fourth round on Sunday.
San Martin, which is playing the first division for the first time in 37 years, clinched the winner from a 76th minute Sebastian Brusco free kick. River's goalkeeper Juan Ojeda had saved a 44th minute penalty from San Martin forward Luis Tonelotto.
After this round, River has only two points from three matches, while San Juan now has six points.
The match also saw River's coach Daniel Passarella using young Chilean player Alexis Sanchez for the first time as a 60th minute substitute for Mauro Rosales.
The remaining round four games are Boca Juniors versus La Plata team Gimnasia and Velez Sarsfield versus a Jujuy team also called Gimnasia.
