Laos pins big hope on gaining medals at muay (kick boxing), judo, taekwondo, karatedo, wushu, and pencak silat events at the 24th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) slated for December in Thailand, Lao newspaper Vientiane Times reported Tuesday.
Laos' taekwondo team is undergoing advanced training in South Korea, the wushu team is experiencing intensive practice in China after improving their form and style at a training camp in Vietnam last month. Muay and other teams are at training camps in Laos' Vientiane capital with the assistance of Lao, Vietnamese, Japanese, Mongolian and Indonesian trainers.
Laos also hopes to bag home medals at such other events as petanque, wrestling and boxing. It grabbed petanque gold medals in the 22nd and the 23rd SEA Games.
At the upcoming 24th SEA Games, Laos concentrates on improving international competitiveness in preparation for the 25th SEA Games slated for 2009 in the country, the newspaper said.
