Nigeira's Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel has pledged his continued support to cricket in Nigeria, saying the game should be encouraged to grow to world standard.

Declaring open the 2007 Annual Delegates Conference of Cricketers at the weekend in Abeokuta, Daniel said his administration's pledge to support the sport in the state and in Nigeria as a whole was based on the fact that "no sport is less advantageous than another in terms of income generation."

According to Daniel, Nigerian youths could be made more useful through sports because if they were in "at least one of the sports, they can generate money for themselves and make the society and the country better off for it."

Earlier, President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), Kwesi Sagoe, had said it was the first time ever the event was being taken out of Abuja, which had been hosting it since its inception.

Sagoe said that because of the conducive atmosphere and serenity of the state, NCF decided to take it out of Abuja and bring it down to Abeokuta, adding that the AGM aimed at reviewing the events of last year and preparing earnestly for the future.
